ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Aruba Students Arrive in Netherlands after the first group of scholarship recipients departed the island last week and reached the country on Thursday, August 6, 2026, where they were welcomed by warm daytime temperatures and noticeably cooler evenings.

The students left Aruba on Wednesday as part of the first group travelling to the Netherlands to continue their studies. Their arrival marks the beginning of a new academic chapter as they prepare to settle into their new surroundings and adjust to daily life abroad.

According to the report, weather conditions in the Netherlands were more comfortable than some of the students may have expected. Although the country had experienced periods of very hot and humid weather in the weeks before their arrival, the new group encountered warm conditions during the day without the same level of oppressive heat.

On Thursday, temperatures reportedly reached approximately 28 degrees Celsius, while Friday saw daytime highs of around 29 degrees Celsius.

The biggest difference was felt during the evening hours. Temperatures dropped noticeably after sunset, giving the students a cooler and more comfortable experience than during the daytime.

For students coming directly from Aruba’s tropical climate, the cooler evenings provided an early reminder of how different the weather can be in the Netherlands, even during the summer months.

Aruba Students Arrive in Netherlands at a time when the Dutch summer is still underway. While current conditions may feel pleasant, the report notes that the season has not yet ended and warmer or more humid days could still return in the coming weeks.

The students will therefore continue adapting not only to their new educational environment but also to changing weather conditions that can be very different from those they are accustomed to in Aruba.

Travelling to the Netherlands for higher education is a major transition for many young Arubans. Beyond starting a new course or degree program, students must become familiar with new cities, transportation systems, housing arrangements and everyday responsibilities.

Weather is one of the first changes they experience upon arrival. While Aruba generally maintains warm temperatures throughout the year, the Netherlands can shift quickly between warm days, cool evenings, rain and eventually much colder autumn and winter conditions.

The students who arrived on August 6 are now beginning the process of settling in before the academic year gets fully underway.

Photos of the students’ arrival were shared courtesy of Arubahuis and the Cabinet of Aruba in the Netherlands, which continue to support and follow the transition of Aruban students studying abroad.

The arrival also gives families back home an opportunity to see how the students are adjusting during their first days overseas.

For now, the group has been able to enjoy pleasant summer weather, with warm daytime temperatures and cooler nights offering a comfortable introduction to life in the Netherlands.

As the weeks continue, the students will move from travel and orientation into their academic routines, beginning a new stage of study while remaining connected to Aruba and their families at home.
