ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Prime Minister Mike Eman said technology should always serve human dignity and the common good during a lecture on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence held at Cas Veneranda.
The event featured Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon, who shared the Catholic Church’s moral perspective on artificial intelligence with religious leaders and community representatives.
Eman said society needs a strong moral compass as technology advances rapidly. He noted that the Church’s reflections on AI are rooted in the social teachings of Rerum Novarum, which addressed the ethical challenges created by the Industrial Revolution.
Referring to the ideas of philosophers Martin Buber and Emmanuel Levinas, Eman emphasized the importance of preserving meaningful human relationships and respecting the dignity of every individual as technology evolves.
He added that Aruba’s government has adopted the common good as a guiding principle for public policy and expressed hope that continued dialogue will help ensure artificial intelligence benefits society while respecting human values.
