Fiesta di Cunucu Celebrates Aruba’s Seniors And Farmers as the second edition of the community event brought together families, farmers, and senior citizens for a day dedicated to Aruba’s agricultural heritage and older generation.

Held at Santa Rosa, the event transformed the agricultural center into a gathering place where visitors enjoyed traditional Aruban cuisine, fresh local produce, music, and activities celebrating the island’s primary sector.

The Fiesta di Cunucu Celebrates Aruba’s Seniors And Farmers event was organized through a partnership between the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and the Primary Sector, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Elderly Care, the Directorate of Elderly Affairs, and the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (Santa Rosa).

Honoring Aruba’s Agricultural Heritage

The celebration highlighted the important role of Aruba’s senior citizens and long-time contributors to agriculture, fishing, beekeeping, horticulture, and livestock farming.

A special “Friends of Santa Rosa” recognition ceremony honored several respected members of the community for their lifelong contributions to Aruba’s primary sector, including:

  • Luis Beltran Winterdaal (“Luee Bee”) – Beekeeper.
  • Francisco Simon Croes (“Chico”) – Farmer from Tanki Leendert.
  • Yasheng Li – Horticulturist specializing in Asian vegetables.
  • Elauterio Briesen (“Techi”) – Fisherman with decades of experience.
  • Gregorio Wolff – Farmer and small livestock breeder continuing a family tradition dating back to 1978.

Bringing Generations Together

The Fiesta di Cunucu Celebrates Aruba’s Seniors And Farmers created opportunities for meaningful interaction between younger and older generations while promoting local food production and preserving traditional agricultural knowledge.

Minister Geoffrey Wever said the event demonstrated what can be achieved when government agencies work together with a shared vision of strengthening local agriculture while supporting the well-being of Aruba’s senior citizens.

He noted that celebrating local food, agricultural traditions, and the island’s elderly in the heart of the countryside reflected the event’s purpose and inspired continued collaboration in the future.

The Fiesta di Cunucu Celebrates Aruba’s Seniors And Farmers concluded with expressions of appreciation to the Directorate of Elderly Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (Santa Rosa), volunteers, producers, and the many families who participated in making the second edition a successful community celebration.
