ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Movimiento Electoral di Pueblo (MEP) faction has submitted an urgent petition to the President of Parliament requesting a public meeting with Prime Minister Mike Eman. The request follows Eman’s public announcement on June 15, 2026, that he will step down as Minister-President on January 1, 2027.
MEP emphasizes that the announcement raises serious concerns about governmental stability, continuity of governance, and political leadership at a critical time for Aruba, especially with important national discussions such as HOFA and other key matters pending.
The faction outlined key topics they want addressed in the public meeting:
- Constitutional and political procedures for selecting and appointing a successor
- Criteria ensuring an orderly transition without uncertainty
- The announcement’s impact on current government stability
- Measures to guarantee continuity and stability during the transition period
- Consequences for negotiations, public policy processes, and Aruba’s international obligations
“Being Minister-President is not solely a party position; it represents the highest office in governance on behalf of all Arubans. An announcement of this magnitude requires full transparency and accountability to Parliament and the community,” the MEP statement reads.
MEP requests that the public meeting be scheduled as a priority to provide clarity on the current situation.
