ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Yesterday, A.J.R. appeared in court to hear his sentence for stabbing K.v.d.B. eight times on August 12, 2025. The prosecutor requested six years in prison along with mandatory psychiatric treatment. The judge emphasized the need to protect the community while considering psychological assessments showing A.J.R. exhibited antisocial and paranoid tendencies.
The court found insufficient evidence for attempted murder, clearing him of that charge. The defense’s claim of self-defense was also rejected. The judge highlighted the severity of repeatedly stabbing the victim, noting that the victim’s child witnessed the attack.
Mandatory treatment (TBS) will include regular supervision and follow-up with mental health professionals, both during the day and at home. A.J.R. is prohibited from contacting the victim or his former partner. The six-year prison sentence excludes time served at KIA, and the court stressed that this punishment is necessary to safeguard the community.
