The Police Force has announced the implementation of preventative controls regarding the possession and use of firearms starting today. The initiative is scheduled to remain in effect through June 7, 2026, as authorities work to maintain public order.
Operations will focus on specific high-traffic areas, including the stretch of L.G. Smith Boulevard extending from the Druif Beach rotunda to Wilhelminapark. Controls will also be conducted in the immediate surroundings of the Flip Flop Festival terrain to ensure security.
During the designated period, officers are authorized to perform checks daily from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Police are permitted to stop pedestrians for body searches, request the opening of bags, backpacks, or other packages, and inspect vehicles for the presence of weapons.
This measure is part of a collaborative effort between the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) and the local police. Both entities have stated they will continue working closely together to uphold a secure environment for Aruba.
