On Thursday afternoon in Oranjestad, Minister of Justice, Public Transportation, Integration, and Energy Arthur Dowers and the Aruba Police Force (KPA) provided updates regarding recent police operations, new personnel, and public safety initiatives.
Liliana Rasmijn, Public Relations Officer for the KPA, confirmed that police arrested suspects in record time following a shooting reported in Sero Colorado on Tuesday. In a separate development, authorities detained the son of a 72-year-old woman after her death in Calbas Morto was determined to be “not natural.” This arrest occurred hours after a large-scale search. Additionally, suspect Li-Angelo Carmona turned himself in to authorities after a search was initiated. The police are also investigating the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Rayden Kock in the Hot Zone.
During the briefing, Minister Dowers officially welcomed K9 Carla as the newest member of the force. The Minister also met with the new board of the Police Union. Two officers were honored for their rescue of a tourist on Hooiberg. The KPA and the Public Prosecutor’s Office continue to collaborate on detecting illegal firearms, reminding the public that May 24 is the final deadline to surrender weapons or ammunition without legal consequences.
