ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Department of Culture Aruba organized a special kite-making workshop for staff yesterday, aiming to celebrate and strengthen the island’s traditional “fli” culture. Held in relation to the current kite-flying season and local competitions, the event focused on expanding technical knowledge and keeping the spirit of this cherished tradition alive within the community.

Throughout the day, participants were given the opportunity to practice various construction techniques and gain a deeper understanding of the detailed processes involved in kite making tradition. The gathering served as a collaborative space where colleagues could share ideas, recount experiences, and work together as a cohesive team. The organizers noted that the environment was filled with creativity, collaboration, and cultural pride, highlighting the importance of these activities in fostering a strong sense of identity among staff members.

The workshop was presented by Julio Werleman and Farrel Werleman, who dedicated their time to sharing their expertise and enthusiasm with the group. Their guidance helped ensure that the specific cultural nuances of the craft were properly conveyed to all participants. The Department of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and promoting Aruban customs, emphasizing that such educational initiatives are vital for ensuring these unique traditions are successfully passed down to future generations.
