FTA Calls for More Attention to Aruba Social Problems

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – FTA President Hose Figaroa says the Aruba government currently has enough financial resources to address the growing social and mental health problems affecting parts of the community.

During an interview with DIARIO, Figaroa stated that despite the country having more financial resources than before, serious social issues continue affecting vulnerable groups within society.

According to the FTA leader, a country’s success should not be measured by how it treats those doing well, but rather by how it supports people facing the greatest difficulties.

Figaroa explained that while a large portion of the population may not experience these challenges directly, there remains a smaller group living in difficult situations that often go unnoticed.

He also emphasized the strong connection between social struggles and mental health issues in Aruba.

“We have a major problem in Aruba, not only regarding medical care but also psychological care,” Figaroa stated, adding that many personal and community problems begin with unresolved social difficulties that eventually grow into larger issues if ignored.

The FTA president stressed that government should invest more time, attention, and financial resources into preventing these problems from worsening instead of waiting until situations become more serious.

According to Figaroa, with funding currently available, now is the right moment for authorities to focus on the root causes of social and mental health challenges in Aruba.
