MIAMI (AAN) – Travel to Aruba from major cities in the United States has temporarily become surprisingly affordable, in some cases even cheaper than regional flights between nearby Dutch Caribbean islands.
According to a recent American Airlines offer, passengers can fly nonstop from Miami to Aruba for as low as $352 roundtrip. The direct route between Miami International Airport and Queen Beatrix International Airport takes just over three hours and remains one of the most consistent connections between Florida and the Caribbean.
The promotion covers a long weekend between May 28 and 31, a period before Aruba enters the busy summer vacation season. Aruba’s stable weather and location outside the hurricane belt continue to make the island an attractive destination.
The price comparison has attracted attention because regional flights within the Dutch Caribbean are often more expensive. Previous JetBlue promotions offered Aruba–New York roundtrip tickets between $258 and $281, lower than some Aruba–Bonaire flights, which can range from $357 to over $412 despite the much shorter distance.
While the discounted fares are temporary and depend on season, demand, and booking timing, the situation has reignited debate about the high cost of regional air connectivity in the Caribbean.
Many residents question why short regional routes can cost more than international flights to major cities such as Miami or New York.
