Dennis Burke Steps Down After 25 Years
Dennis Burke has announced his retirement as a member and President of the board of the Playa Pabao Community Center. Burke, who has served the neighborhood for 25 years, explained his decision during a recent press conference, citing a lack of participation from local residents as a primary reason.
Reasons for Retirement
Burke recounted that he was initially invited to join the board by a group of friends due to his experience, agreeing to a term of three years that ultimately extended to 25 years. He expressed concern that the center has been handed over to individuals who are not from the neighborhood and lack the connection to the community that Playa Pabao is known for.
Concerns Over Center Management
As an example of mismanagement, Burke cited a project coordinator who started a manicure and pedicure course priced at Afl. 50.00 for 10 weeks. He argued that the hourly rate of Afl. 2.50 was unfairly low compared to the Afl. 5.00 per hour seniors pay for gym classes. Burke believes that such mistakes must be corrected immediately to maintain the integrity of the community center.
