Large-Scale Counterfeit Goods Operation Seizes Hundreds of Products at Paseo Herencia

Authorities in Aruba have seized hundreds—possibly close to a thousand—counterfeit goods  brand-name products during a large-scale enforcement operation at the Paseo Herencia shopping area. The raid was led by bailiff Marali Cruz, in collaboration with attorney Wiek Herben, who is active in both Curaçao and Aruba.

What Was Seized

The operation targeted several stores and kiosks suspected of selling counterfeit luxury and sportswear goods. Among the confiscated items were bags, jewelry, watches, sunglasses, belts, and wallets bearing the names of well-known brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Nike, and Puma. Counterfeit Rolex watches were also among the seized merchandise.

A Structural Problem on the Island

According to Herben, the trade in counterfeit products is a criminal offense and represents a structural problem on the island. “There are parties making a lot of money importing and selling counterfeit products illegally, often targeting tourists who pay high sums for what they believe are genuine brand-name articles,” the attorney stated.

All seized goods will be inventoried and evaluated. Once that process is complete, the counterfeit products will be destroyed to prevent further distribution.

Ongoing Enforcement Efforts

The inspections are part of a continuous enforcement process that takes place throughout the year. Experts from the involved brands help identify suspicious products, after which legal steps are taken to remove them from circulation.

Authorities emphasized that these operations have been conducted for several years already and will continue in the future to combat the illegal trade in counterfeit goods.
