A 66-year-old woman died Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Santa Helenastraat, marking the fifth fatal traffic accident in Aruba this year.
**KPA** (Cuerpo Policial Aruba) received a report at approximately 6:45 a.m. that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian near the former Xavier University. Responding officers confirmed that a white Toyota Corolla had first collided with a parked vehicle before striking the pedestrian, identified as **Liris Aurelia Senior Barrios**, a Colombian-born resident who lived behind the former university campus and was walking to work at the time.
Emergency medical personnel arrived promptly and provided assistance, but the woman was found unresponsive and in critical condition. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene by forensic doctor **Wemeijer**. The driver had fled the scene before police arrived.
Traffic specialists and forensic investigators processed the scene while the Victim Support Department assisted the grieving family. At approximately 7:10 a.m., police received word that the driver had turned himself in. He was taken into custody and tested negative for alcohol on a breathalyzer test.
The incident adds to a growing toll of road fatalities in Aruba in 2026, with five lives now lost in traffic accidents this year. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
