The Aruba Driver’s License Department action has escalated as staff raised serious concerns about poor working conditions and facility issues.

The situation at the Driver’s License Department has been described as alarming, with problems reportedly ongoing for many years. On Friday, employees took action by stopping work to draw attention to the deteriorating conditions.

According to Rodney Solognier of the SPA union, the department’s building is in a deplorable state. Issues include malfunctioning air conditioning systems, excessive heat, mold presence, and damaged ceilings. These conditions are affecting both employees and the public, making it difficult to properly conduct driver’s license exams and services.

Reports highlighting these problems have been submitted over the years, but according to the union, no effective response has been received from past or current leadership.

Although Justice Minister Arthur Dowers recently stated that the department would be relocated, the proposed alternative building was also found to be unsuitable. Since then, no concrete progress has been made, while working conditions continue to worsen.

The union emphasized that the Aruba Driver’s License Department action is a call for urgent government intervention. They are demanding a solution as soon as possible, stressing that the issue impacts not only staff but also citizens who rely on the department’s services.

Union representatives described this as the first phase of action, warning authorities that the situation has reached a critical point.
