Dowers: Aruba Looks to Science to Combat Crime and Improve Decision-Making

ORANJESTAD – Justice Minister Arthur Dowers met with Ivo Giesen, Director of the Scientific Research and Data Center (WODC) in the Netherlands, to explore how scientific research can help Aruba create more effective policies.

The meeting focused on a simple yet important point: using data and research to make better decisions. During the conversation, they discussed the types of studies WODC conducts and how Aruba could benefit from them, as well as the types of research Aruba itself could develop.

Topics such as migration, youth crime, organized crime, and cybercrime were part of the dialogue. The main focus was clear: without data and serious analysis, it is difficult to combat modern problems effectively.

More than just a formal meeting, the encounter pointed toward a direction: Aruba wants to base its policies on concrete knowledge rather than assumptions.
