ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba drug importation case has resulted in two men, identified as E.A. and J.S.O., being sentenced to more than seven years in prison for their involvement in importing over 700 kilograms of drugs.

The case dates back to June 8, 2024, when the Coast Guard intercepted a boat at Eagle Beach carrying a large shipment of drugs. Authorities discovered 379 kilograms of marijuana and 335 kilograms of cocaine, totaling 714 kilograms.

During the trial, the Public Prosecutor requested sentences of 10 years for E.A. and 9 years for J.S.O. However, the judge decided to impose slightly reduced sentences after reviewing the case details.

Evidence presented in the Aruba drug importation case included intercepted communications, witness testimonies, and surveillance footage linking both men to the preparation and reception of the drug shipment. One suspect had also previously been caught at the airport with cocaine concealed in luggage, while the other was found in possession of drugs and involved in a separate assault case.

The court found both men guilty of participating in the importation operation but did not find sufficient evidence regarding the possession of firearms discovered on the boat.

As a result, E.A. was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison, while J.S.O. received a sentence of 7 years and 9 months. The court emphasized the serious impact of drug trafficking on society, including its role in fueling crime and harming families.

All confiscated drugs will be destroyed, and related financial assets will be returned as per the court’s decision.
