Minister Signs MOU for Vocational Education Project at KIA

Minister, along with the Openbaar Avond Beroepsonderwijs Aruba (OABA) and the Dienst Gevangeniswezen Aruba (DGWA), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for offering vocational education at the Instituto Coreccional Nacional (KIA).

Through this collaboration, an important step is being taken to strengthen the sustainable resocialization and reintegration of detained individuals. Education is being utilized as a crucial tool to expand labor participation opportunities and reintegrate individuals into society.

The pilot program will begin in 2026 and focus on an initial group of up to twelve detainees. They will follow the Assistant Metal, Electro, and Installation (Level 1) program, combining practical training and digital education to earn a Level 1 diploma with civil effect.

Throughout the training, participants will work on concrete projects, such as making school desks. In this way, they are not only developing professional skills but also contributing actively to the community. This learning and working process provides direct feedback to society and builds a sense of pride, responsibility, and belonging.

This collaboration represents an innovative focus where security, education quality, and social impact are united.

The realization of this project is the result of close collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice. Gratitude is extended to OABA and KIA for their commitment and efforts in making this initiative possible.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Education is taking concrete steps toward a more inclusive society where human development and opportunity are central.
