The King Willem Alexander Fort Zoutman meeting brought together key political leaders during Aruba’s national celebrations.

At Fort Zoutman, the oldest stone building in Aruba and a historic defense site in Oranjestad, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander met with leaders of parliamentary factions and members of the Council of Ministers. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by representatives of the National Celebration Committee (CCDN).

A special moment during the visit occurred at the entrance of the Willem III Tower, where the King greeted Ms. Ciria Quant, who was celebrating her 100th birthday on March 18. This added a symbolic touch to the national festivities.

During the King Willem Alexander Fort Zoutman meeting, discussions focused on important historical milestones, including 70 years of the Charter for the Kingdom, 40 years of Status Aparte, and 50 years of Aruba’s National Anthem and Flag.

Leaders also reflected on Aruba’s long journey toward autonomy, recognizing figures such as Shon A. Eman, who in 1948 presented a motion supporting Aruba’s right to administrative separation, and Betico Croes, who led the popular movement that ultimately achieved Status Aparte.

Following the meeting, the King continued his official program at the Bestuurskantoor. Along the way, scout groups greeted the royal delegation, while steelpan music added a festive atmosphere to the celebrations.

The King Willem Alexander Fort Zoutman meeting reinforced the importance of dialogue and cooperation between Aruba’s democratic institutions and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. His presence further strengthened the bonds within the Kingdom and added significance to Aruba’s historic celebrations.
