ORANJESTAD (AAN): On the evening of February 26th, an Aruba Cruise Ship Medical Emergency was reported to the Aruba Port Captaincy from the Serenade of the Seas, a cruise ship currently on a “Southern Caribbean” itinerary. The ship was a few miles off the coast of Aruba when the emergency call was received. Departing from Colon (Panama) on February 21st, the ship is set to return on February 28th. This is one of the cruises operating from a homeport outside of Miami, as many people now prefer not to board cruises in Florida, given the increased scrutiny of tourists by ICE Immigration.
The ship had previously visited Cartagena (Colombia) and was on its way to Bonaire after Aruba. The ship’s schedule indicated it would dock in Aruba on February 26th.
Aruba Cruise Ship Medical Emergency Onboard: The ship reported a passenger experiencing a severe medical emergency beyond the onboard doctor’s capabilities. Given the urgency of the situation, the nearest port—Aruba—was chosen to safely disembark the passenger for specialized care.
Around 6:00 pm, the ship began its approach to Oranjestad, and by 6:20 pm, it docked at berth B of Playa Harbor. At that time, two other cruise ships—Norwegian Sky at berth C and Oasis of the Seas at berth I—were also docked. By coincidence, Oceania Insignia had just departed Aruba at 5:00 pm.
After disembarking the patient, the ship departed Aruba at 7:05 pm, continuing its route to Bonaire. It was scheduled to arrive at 7:55 am the following day.
While in Aruba, the patient was taken to Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital for further medical treatment. All logistics for the medical emergency were handled by Royal Caribbean International.
Today, the Serenade of the Seas cruise ship will return to Aruba’s port.
