ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Tomorrow, the Court of First Instance will decide the fate of Kenneth Vrolijk, accused of fraud and embezzling over 180,000 Florin from the Aruba government. The prosecutor has requested a 2.5-year prison sentence, a fine of 7,720.63 Florin, and immediate detention for Vrolijk, who is currently abroad and failed to appear in court.

Vrolijk, aged 30, is involved in the “Bromelia Zaak” case and is accused of embezzling funds from the Stichting Sportsubsidie Aruba (SSA) between May 2023 and September 2024. He allegedly used multiple bank accounts, including those of four others, to funnel government subsidies for personal gain, instead of funding sports development projects. Vrolijk also forged the signature of the Minister of Education and Sports on several occasions. The prosecutor has demanded that Vrolijk repay the embezzled funds and face criminal charges, with a 7-year work ban in the government sector.
