The Ombudsman of Aruba, Mrs. Jurima Bryson, has been elected as the Regional Director for the Caribbean and Latin America of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), an esteemed global organization that fosters cooperation and transparency in governance and human rights.

In June 2025, the Ombudsman Bureau announced that the Ombudsman of Aruba would officially join the IOI following an extensive screening process. The IOI, with over 200 Ombudsman institutions across more than 100 countries, works to improve cooperation and enhance good governance, transparency, and human rights protections around the world.

As the Ombudsman of Aruba Regional Director for the Caribbean and Latin America, Mrs. Bryson will represent the region at the IOI. She will also help facilitate cooperation and knowledge sharing between countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.

This appointment highlights the international recognition of the work carried out by the Ombudsman of Aruba, further solidifying Aruba’s standing in the global network of Ombudsman institutions.

Mrs. Bryson expressed her gratitude for the honor: “It is my privilege to receive this recognition, both for myself and for Aruba as a whole. With the support of my team, we have established an impartial, independent, and professional Ombudsman of Aruba institution on the island. It’s fulfilling to know that, even in the early stages, we have already gained international attention. This appointment opens doors for Aruba to be part of a broader global network and ensures that the Ombudsman of Aruba institution continues to be recognized internationally. As Ombudsman of Aruba Regional Director, I am committed to fulfilling my role with dedication.”
