Automobilistanan lo ricibi nan plachinan di number in the coming days, according to Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector, Mr. Geoffrey Wever.

Minister Wever announced that motorists and motorcyclists will soon receive their new license plates. In close cooperation with the Tax Department, the purchasing process for the new plates is being finalized. By next week, the department will be ready to continue providing services to those waiting to register their cars, trucks, or motorcycles and receive new number plates.

The first group to receive plates will be those registering under categories MFA, DT, T, and O. This will be followed by categories A and V.

The Minister explained that the Tax Department usually orders enough plates to meet demand and keeps additional numbers in reserve. However, since September 2025, demand for number plates has increased drastically. As a result, reserve plates for categories A, MFA, DT, and O were quickly depleted.

Between September and December 2025, the department ordered an additional 3,000 plates, but these were also rapidly exhausted due to the continuous high demand for new vehicle registrations.

In January 2026, the Tax Department initiated a new purchasing process. As part of the procedure, it was necessary to formally increase the number series for the different categories through a ministerial decree. Minister Wever has signed the decree to allow the purchase process to proceed quickly. A total of 6,750 number plates are being ordered.

The Tax Department is working closely with the manufacturing company to receive and distribute the plates as soon as possible. Meanwhile, vehicle registration has not stopped for other categories not affected by the shortage. Motor vehicle tax payments also continue as usual.

Minister Wever and the Tax Department acknowledged that the delay in issuing plates has caused frustration. They apologized for the inconvenience and assured motorists and motorcyclists that they will receive their plates soon.

The Minister expressed appreciation to the Tax Department team and the plate manufacturer for their cooperation and hard work, and thanked motorists and motorcyclists for their patience and understanding.
