ORANJESTAD (AAN) – In connection with the commemoration of World Epilepsy Day, which takes place on February 10th, the Epilepsy Foundation Aruba was invited to appear on the program “Nos Mainta,” hosted by Siomara Everon and Ivan Kelie Jr. on Tele Aruba, to discuss their informational campaign titled “Live with Epilepsy Campaign Aruba”, aimed at educating the public.

Minister of Public Health, Mervin Wyatt-Ras, was also present and expressed that it was an honor to participate alongside the foundation in the program.

He stated that he was very pleased with this initiative to provide information and raise awareness about a condition like epilepsy.

“It is of utmost importance to raise awareness in our community, as we advocate for inclusion and equal rights for all individuals. It’s vital that when someone experiences an epileptic seizure, they receive support and respect, as this condition should not be viewed as a form of condemnation or carry a stigma,” Minister Wyatt-Ras emphasized.

He added, “As Minister of Health and Social Affairs, I believe it is our responsibility to give people all types of information, just as the foundation is doing, so that the community knows what to do in these situations. People with epilepsy or who may experience seizures are part of the community and their families, and we must learn how to support them and provide the necessary care.”

The Minister shared his own experience with a case, explaining that although it can be frightening, providing information helps to remove confusion and anxiety, allowing the affected person to feel safe and calm. “The main point is to remain calm and ensure the person feels better,” Minister Wyatt-Ras reaffirmed.

He also reiterated that the government supports such initiatives to improve the health and quality of life for citizens, particularly those living with conditions like epilepsy.
