ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AAN) — AVP traffic safety monitoring Aruba remains a priority as the AVP parliamentary faction continues to closely follow government actions in response to recent tragic traffic accidents on the island.

The AVP faction in Parliament expressed deep sympathy with the Aruban community following the shock and grief caused by recent fatal traffic incidents. Each loss of life, the faction stated, represents a profound wound to society, with families and communities bearing lasting pain.

In immediate response to the situation, AVP parliamentarian John Hart requested a question hour, calling on the Minister of Justice, Dr. Arthur Dowers, to appear before Parliament and provide updates on the current situation and measures being taken to improve traffic safety in Aruba.

The question hour and public discussions on the topic took place on January 9 and January 19. Since then, members of the AVP faction have remained actively engaged in parliamentary debate while also consulting experts and members of the public to gather a wide range of perspectives.

In dialogue with the government, a broad range of potential measures has been considered. These include increased police enforcement, legislative amendments allowing for stricter penalties for serious traffic violations, improvements to road infrastructure and public transportation, and more intensive public awareness campaigns focused on traffic safety.

Meetings with the Minister of Justice, accompanied by the Chief Commissioner of the Aruba Police Force, were described as constructive. The AVP faction emphasized that it will continue its oversight role to ensure that commitments made by the government are translated into concrete actions.

The AVP assured the public that it will not remain passive until meaningful progress is achieved in preventing traffic accidents and ensuring safer roads for all. As part of this commitment, Parliament President Marlon Sneek and other members of Parliament are scheduled to receive the manifesto presented by families of victims, listen with respect, and reaffirm their dedication to lasting change.

Traffic safety is a shared responsibility, the AVP stated, and the faction pledged to continue working tirelessly to protect the lives of Aruba’s citizens.
