Prime Minister Mike Eman Delivers National End-of-Year Message for 2025–2026

In his 2025–2026 National End-of-Year Address, Aruba’s Prime Minister Mike Eman called on the Aruban people to take a moment of deep reflection on the nation’s past, present, and future. The speech, delivered from the historic Bestuurskantoor and concluding in the new Council of Ministers Hall, emphasized continuity in leadership, public service, and national responsibility.

The Prime Minister highlighted the upcoming milestones of 40 years of Status Aparte in 2026 and 50 years of Aruba’s national anthem and flag, describing them as living symbols of identity, unity, and commitment to the island. He stressed that Status Aparte is not only a historic achievement, but a daily responsibility to continue working toward a better future for all Arubans.

“Status Aparte is a daily responsibility to build a new tomorrow,” Prime Minister Eman stated.

The Common Good as a Guiding Principle

A central theme of the address was the Common Good, which the Prime Minister described as the moral foundation of his government. Drawing inspiration from his grandfather, former Prime Minister Henny Eman, he emphasized that prosperity in Aruba must be shared fairly and never concentrated in the hands of a few.

Quoting his grandfather’s philosophy dating back to 1929, Eman referenced the idea that prosperity comes from the “Hand of Providence” and therefore must benefit the entire population.

“What is given to Aruba must benefit everyone—no one should be invisible, and no neighborhood forgotten,” he declared.

International Conference on the Common Good

Prime Minister Eman also announced that an international conference on the Common Good will be hosted in Aruba at the end of January. The event will bring together academics, religious leaders, non-governmental organizations, and international policymakers to discuss responsibility, solidarity, and just development. Aruba aims to position itself as a global platform for ethical reflection and inclusive governance.

Policy Achievements and Priorities

The Prime Minister outlined key initiatives launched in 2025 and continuing into 2026, including:

  • Increased support for senior citizens and pension adjustments
  • Restoration of full medical coverage
  • Weekly government presence in neighborhoods
  • Expanded economic opportunities
  • A strong focus on environmental sustainability

Looking ahead, he presented a vision for a stronger and more equitable Aruba, including tax reform to encourage investment, education reform, revitalization of San Nicolas, redevelopment of the former refinery area, and a shift in tourism strategy from quantity to quality.

Security, Faith, and Remembrance

Against a backdrop of international tensions, Eman reaffirmed Aruba’s close cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and regional partners to ensure security and stability. He closed this segment with a message of faith and hope, quoting Isaiah 51:5, emphasizing trust and perseverance.

The speech concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the late Prime Minister Henny Eman, honoring his historic legacy and expressing solidarity with all citizens who experienced loss during the year. He also remembered his brother, who passed away on January 6, 2025.

“Pain connects us, but love does too. The path of the Common Good that Henny chose is the path we continue to follow.”
