ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Last week, Dossier Koninkrijksrelaties published a statement regarding an investigation aimed at improving voter participation among residents of the CAS islands — Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten — in elections for the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) and the European Parliament.
The significantly low voter turnout in the CAS islands during these elections prompted the Dutch Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), Frank Rijkaart, to commission an investigation. The objective is to identify the reasons behind the low participation rates and explore ways to encourage more eligible voters in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom to exercise their right to vote.
The investigation will focus on several areas, including improving voter registration procedures, communication with voters, and the distribution of voting cards, with the goal of making the voting process easier and more accessible for residents of the islands.
Minister Rijkaart indicated that the results of the investigation, along with any recommendations that may arise, are expected to be finalized by mid-2026.
