Final Quality Day of 2025 at HOH Highlights New Initiatives and Improvements

The Quality and Safety team of Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) recently held its final “Quality Day” (Kwaliteitsdag) of 2025, offering hospital employees an interactive and informative event focused on continuous improvement in medical care and services.

Beyond safeguarding quality, the Quality and Safety Department plays a vital role in supporting all colleagues through ongoing training, courses, seminars, and practical tools aimed at enhancing healthcare standards.

In 2025, a total of four Quality Days were organized with the goal of engaging all HOH employees—regardless of role—in learning, exchanging experiences, raising awareness, and identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care. The final edition coincided with World Quality Day, making it a fitting moment to close the year.

Gillian Jie, Manager of Quality and Safety, explained that this year’s Quality Days centered around growth, collaboration, and awareness, all aimed at raising quality and safety levels at HOH. She emphasized that while human errors can occur, the key is to share them openly so the team can identify root causes and strengthen systems, processes, and protocols.

HOH continues to reinforce its foundation of care through major quality initiatives, including progress toward Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation and the hospital’s transition to the new electronic patient record system, HiX.

The fourth edition featured various presentations on topics such as emergency situations that create learning opportunities, new training programs offered by HOH Academy, and an interactive session based on a real case. Improvement measures derived from internal reports were also shared, allowing colleagues to learn together and foster a strong culture of quality that supports safer and better care for all patients.

Yuri Casseres, a member of the HOH Board of Directors, highlighted that Quality Day is essential because quality is one of the hospital’s core pillars. “Quality plays a fundamental role in patient care, as every patient is central to what we do. Everyone who works around the patient must prioritize quality,” he said. He stressed the importance of dedicating time and attention to quality initiatives to continuously improve safety and care at HOH.

Finally, Gillian Jie thanked her team for their hard work and dedication. Without their commitment, the four Quality Days of 2025 would not have been possible. She also thanked the HOH Board for supporting the initiative and enabling employees to take time throughout the year to listen, reflect, and contribute to building a stronger culture of quality for the entire community’s wellbeing.
