Prime Minister Mike Eman Announces Major Neighborhood Renewal Projects Across Aruba

Prime Minister Mike Eman has announced a new phase of neighborhood renewal projects across several social housing areas in Aruba, marking the beginning of an ambitious revitalization plan under the AVP-Futuro government.

During the official opening of the new playground and football field in Madiki, Prime Minister Eman highlighted that during his previous administrations (Mike Eman I and II), there was historic progress in neighborhood development in areas such as Yuwana Morto, Yara, De Vuyst, Madiki, Pos Chiquito, and Bushiri. However, he noted that in recent years, many of these neighborhoods have deteriorated due to a lack of attention.

Eman announced that the government will soon begin restoration and improvement works in De Vuyst, Mabon, and Bushiri, focusing on upgrading homes, creating recreational spaces, and improving infrastructure.

In Bushiri, starting early 2026, the plan includes the renovation and painting of all social homes, construction of sidewalks, planting of trees, installation of street lighting to enhance safety, and the creation of a children’s park.

In Mabon, complete renovation of ground-floor houses will take place, along with the improvement of sidewalks frequently used by residents and the creation of a community park for leisure and social activities.

Eman expressed sadness over the decline of De Vuyst, which was once completely renewed during his leadership but has since become almost deserted. Under the new initiative, De Vuyst will be fully revitalized and transformed once again into a vibrant, united community.

The Prime Minister emphasized a holistic approach to community development — not only building homes but also fostering spaces for recreation, social connection, and pride. “When residents have places to gather, organize activities, and maintain their neighborhood, they build stronger communities that live in harmony and take responsibility for their environment,” Eman said.

The government’s vision aims to create self-sustaining, united communities that foster a sense of belonging and reduce dependence on government maintenance.
