New Progressive Structure for Aruparking’s Control and Sanctions

In a recent interview with Diario, Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers shared details about the Aruba Government’s plans to implement a more effective and efficient system for managing Aruparking by using modern technology. According to Minister Dowers, this new system will create additional government revenue in a structured and transparent way while encouraging better behavior among drivers.

In recent years, the handling of parking violations has not been consistent. Under the previous system, vehicles were clamped immediately, and sanctions were often severe and not always fair.

Under the new structure, a progressive system of control and sanctions will be introduced, based on the number of violations committed by a driver. In cases of repeated offenses, Aruparking may eventually remove the vehicle.

According to current law, Aruparking can clamp vehicles parked illegally. After two hours, the vehicle can be towed, and fines can reach up to 400 florins. However, Minister Dowers emphasized that this approach will be replaced by a new procedure designed to promote better driving and parking habits.

Regarding parking management in other zones—particularly in the Palm Beach hotel area—Minister Dowers stated that a deeper analysis is needed to develop a plan that facilitates parking in the busy tourist district, which is currently very chaotic.
