Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) is proud to announce the launch of its new Self Bag Drop (SBD) service, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and improving the passenger experience at Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA).

The Self Bag Drop units, located in the U.S. check-in hall for passengers traveling to the United States, are now officially in service after successful testing and staff training. With this new service, travelers can complete the check-in and baggage drop process entirely on their own, without needing to see an agent. This provides greater efficiency and convenience, enhancing the overall airport experience.

Phased Rollout Schedule

  • Phase 1 (September 25, 2025): Trial launch with American Airlines.
  • Phase 2 (October 2025): Expansion to JetBlue, Spirit, and Southwest.
  • Other airlines will continue using their current check-in process, with the potential for future integration.

Commitment to Passenger Convenience

“We are excited to introduce Self Bag Drop as part of our continued investment in creating a modern, seamless, and passenger-friendly airport,” said Jurgen Benschop, COO of Aruba Airport Authority. “This launch offers travelers more choices and convenience, while we continue to improve the airport experience step by step.”

The Self Bag Drop project includes four dedicated units, developed in close collaboration with participating airlines and the service provider SITA. Aruba Airport is introducing this technology in phases to ensure smooth adoption while focusing on safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Part of the Gateway 2030 Expansion

This launch is also aligned with the airport’s Gateway 2030 expansion and modernization project, which aims to transform AUA into a future-ready airport with enhanced passenger experiences. Innovations like Self Bag Drop highlight Aruba Airport’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art facilities.
