Prime Minister Mike Eman of Aruba recently paid an official visit to the Dutch Parliament, where he met with Olger van Dijk, President of the Permanent Committee for Kingdom Relations.

During the meeting, Van Dijk expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Eman’s visit and highlighted Eman’s speech during the previous day’s plenary session of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament, which marks a key moment in the parliamentary year.

Van Dijk emphasized the committee’s focus on maintaining strong relations at all levels within the Kingdom, both with the Prime Minister and members of the States General. He also noted that the upcoming Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) would address several critical issues, which were discussed with Prime Minister Eman.

A significant topic of discussion was Aruba’s proposal to introduce a dispute resolution mechanism, which will be further debated during the next IPKO. The Raad van State, on its own initiative, had recommended evaluating whether a formal dispute resolution framework would be beneficial.

Van Dijk stressed the importance of the historical relationship between the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean countries, acknowledging that even during moments of disagreement, dialogue and cooperation are essential. He pointed out shared challenges such as citizen safety, housing shortages, and migration management, which are pressing concerns not only for Aruba but also for the Netherlands.

Concluding the meeting, Van Dijk emphasized the need to strengthen the Kingdom’s ties, not just to share challenges but also to protect the common interests in a geopolitically shifting world.
