A new book titled “40 Jaar Status Aparte: Tussen voortgaan en stilstaan” was recently launched.
The book invites deep reflection on the meaning of autonomy, responsibility, and the future of Aruba as a nation.
The presentation of the book took place with various distinguished guests, including Mr. Gerlien Croes, Minister of Relations within the Kingdom, Education, Youth, Innovation, and Sport, and Mr. Mike Eman, former Prime Minister of Aruba. Their participation highlighted the historical and current importance of Status Aparte in Aruba’s political, legal, and social development.
The book, edited by Lincoln D. Gomez and Brechtje J. Huiskes, provides legal, historical, and institutional analysis of Aruba’s journey from 1986 to today, balancing the tension between progress and pause, between moving forward and standing still.
This work serves as a memorial, not only reflecting on the achievements of the past 40 years but also raising essential questions about the future: how will we manage our autonomy, strengthen our institutions, and prepare Aruba for the future?
The book presentation took place at the University of Aruba’s Aula and was attended by several special guests. For those unable to attend in person, there was also the opportunity to join virtually.
With “40 Jaar Status Aparte: Tussen voortgaan en stilstaan,” the authors have made a significant contribution to the national dialogue about our past, present, and future, inviting the community, professionals, and leaders to continue reflecting and working together on the profound meaning of Status Aparte.
