The Tourism Security Patrol Aruba (TSPA) has removed a security guard from duty following a viral video showing aggressive and disrespectful behavior toward tourists and local artist Rusty in a tourist area.
The video, widely shared on social media over the weekend, shows a TSPA officer confronting and physically handling the well-known singer in public view, alarming bystanders and visitors. Footage recorded by witnesses on smartphones, as well as security camera footage from a nearby business, captured the incident clearly.
The altercation reportedly took place on November 27, 2025, during the evening hours and was related to an alleged unauthorized parking situation in a hotel area. Despite being responsible for protecting visitors, the officer’s conduct escalated into a public disturbance in front of tourists.
Many social media users criticized the officer’s actions, stating that such behavior damages Aruba’s tourism industry and creates fear among visitors. Several comments questioned the professionalism of the officer and whether individuals with such behavior should be employed in the tourism security sector at all.
Observers also noted that while Rusty attempted to remain calm and de-escalate the situation, the security officer continued acting aggressively. Another officer present at the scene reportedly failed to intervene.
Official Response from TSPA
In response to the incident, TSPA issued an official statement, acknowledging the circulating video and confirming immediate action:
- TSPA apologized publicly to the people of Aruba and to all visitors.
- The organization stated that the behavior shown in the video is unacceptable and does not reflect its values, professionalism, or standards.
- TSPA confirmed that the security guard involved is no longer employed by the organization.
- Additional measures are being implemented, including reinforcement of protocols and retraining, to prevent similar incidents.
- TSPA reaffirmed its commitment to safety, respect, hospitality, and cooperation with local authorities and tourism partners.
TSPA also noted that its sponsors have been informed of the incident and share the organization’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the highest standards of conduct in Aruba’s tourism sector.
