Today Is Going to Be a Good Day: Discover Aruba Beyond the Beach

VIEWS

While Aruba is renowned for its stunning white-sand beaches, warm Caribbean waters, and year-round sunny weather, there’s so much more to explore on this beautiful island beyond the coastline. The island, 19.6 miles long and 6 miles across, is full of hidden gems that showcase the rich culture, history, and nature that Aruba has to offer. Here are a few exciting things to do beyond the beach:

Nature Calls: Explore Arikok National Park

A must-see destination for nature lovers is Arikok National Park, which covers 7,907 acres of Aruba’s protected wilderness. Home to unique flora, fauna, and historical sites, the park provides a glimpse into the island’s indigenous roots. Whether you’re up for a scenic hike with the park’s knowledgeable rangers (with tours free of charge) or prefer to drive through, the park is a fantastic way to spend an entire day.

Cruise through the stunning landscape, and you’ll find pristine beaches like Dos Playa and Daimara Beach, which offer a peaceful escape. The park is also home to rare wildlife, including the Aruban whiptail lizard, Aruban cat-eye snake, and the endangered rattle snake. Make sure to stop by the park’s Visitor’s Center to learn more about the animals and history of the area.

For more details, check out the park’s official site: www.arubanationalpark.org.

California Lighthouse: Climb to New Heights

While the California Lighthouse is a popular attraction on the island, there’s something new you may not have experienced yet. Since 2016, visitors can now climb to the top of this historic lighthouse, which offers panoramic views of the island. Originally built in 1915, the lighthouse was named after the ship California, which wrecked near the lighthouse in 1891.

Restored by Stichting Monumentenfonds in 2016, the lighthouse provides a unique vantage point to admire Aruba’s coastline. The journey to the top is well worth the view! For more information, visit www.arubalighthouse.com.

Kayak Through the Mangroves at Mangel Halto

For a more active way to enjoy Aruba’s natural beauty, head to Mangel Halto at Savaneta. Known for its pristine beach and surrounding mangroves, this spot is perfect for kayaking. Paddle through the calm waters, and enjoy a different perspective of the island’s stunning coastline. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a break to snorkel at the nearby reef and discover Aruba’s vibrant underwater world.

Kayak tours are available from several local companies, with The Shack Kayak Tours Aruba being a favorite. Check them out on Facebook for tour details.

Final Thoughts

Aruba offers so much more than just beautiful beaches. From exploring national parks to enjoying kayaking adventures in the mangroves or climbing historic lighthouses, there’s no shortage of ways to connect with the island’s natural beauty. So, next time you’re in Aruba, take the time to explore beyond the beach—your adventure awaits!
