SMAC Urges Carnival Groups to Inspect All Vehicles on Time

With Carnival just around the corner and the first parade—the Fakkel Parade—scheduled for January 3, 2026, SMAC is calling on all Carnival groups to ensure their vehicles are inspected well before the parade date.

SMAC President Darren van Ommeren told DIARIO that the organization has already notified all groups about the procedures required for vehicle inspections. To support the process, the Department of Technical Inspections (DTI) will be cooperating with SMAC and Carnival groups and will open specially on Saturday, December 13 to inspect all Carnaval-related vehicles.

Groups must make an appointment or visit DTI in person and pay in advance for the number of vehicles that need to be inspected. On December 13, they will be able to go through inspection freely and smoothly, as the regular inspection queue will not be open to the general public on that day.

Van Ommeren also clarified that for matters involving police inspection—such as length, width, and height of trailers, trucks, and similar vehicles—groups should contact the Department of Planning in Balashi. Police inspections only cover these measurements, but all vehicles must still undergo inspection at DTI.

He reminded all groups that police checks will take place during the parade on January 3rd, and urged everyone to complete their inspections this week to avoid problems, delays, or the risk of being excluded from the parade.
