During a press conference on Monday, SETAR’s Director, Ing. Roland Croes, shared several examples of how digital innovation has transformed the world — both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted how rapidly technology has evolved and noted that one of the most impactful systems has been WhatsApp, which revolutionized global communication.
Croes explained that these rapid changes forced both countries and companies to adapt quickly.
“Suddenly, every business realized it couldn’t continue operating the same way as before. That’s when terms like Artificial Intelligence became more relevant,” he said. “AI has existed for over 70 years, but since the arrival of ChatGPT in 2022, everyone has recognized it as a new way of working. AI increases productivity and reduces costs, pushing people to be more creative.”
He emphasized that AI is transforming habits, business operations, and even national progress.
“If we, as a country, don’t adapt to this development and understand how the world is moving, we risk being left behind,” Croes stated.
Recognizing this shift, SETAR launched “Digital Week”, a five-day event aimed at supporting Aruba’s transition into the digital age. The event includes daily one-hour sessions led by SETAR and its partners, covering a wide range of technology and innovation topics.
According to Croes, the goal of Digital Week is to educate and inspire the community to embrace digital transformation and prepare for the future.
