Search for Missing Aruban Fishermen Expands to Central America

ORANJESTAD – August 4, 2025 – The search for four missing fishermen from Aruba has widened, with authorities now expanding their efforts to include the coasts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, following new drift pattern simulations and diplomatic discussions with regional partners.

The fishermen disappeared several weeks ago after departing on their vessel, Energy, sparking a massive search operation across the Caribbean. Initial efforts were centered around Colombian waters, but recent maritime drift analyses suggest the vessel may have moved further west, possibly drifting toward the Central American coastline.

🌊 Expanded Search Area Based on New Simulations

Colombian maritime authorities, working closely with Aruba, have conducted aerial and naval patrols in the Caribbean. A recent update shared during a meeting between officials and the families of the missing men revealed that the search must now include Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

“Drift simulations suggest Energy may have exited Colombian jurisdiction,” said an Aruban official during the meeting with Colombian Consul Gustavo Serrano Amaya.

🤝 Regional Cooperation and Diplomatic Engagement

Aruba has now formally requested support through the Dutch Embassy in San José, seeking active assistance from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The request includes:

  • Coordinated maritime and aerial patrols

  • Sharing of real-time maritime intelligence

  • Deployment of surveillance aircraft and coast guard vessels

This expanded search effort aims to leverage regional collaboration to improve the chances of locating the vessel and reuniting the fishermen with their families.

📢 Government and Family Response

Aruban officials reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the search operation and promised to keep families informed. They emphasized the importance of diplomatic outreach and regional cooperation, noting that every possible effort is being made to bring the fishermen home safely.

“Our hope remains strong. We are doing everything in our power, with the support of our neighbors, to locate the vessel and its crew,” said a government spokesperson.

As efforts intensify across Central American waters, the Aruban community continues to hope for positive news.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
