ORANJESTAD (AAN) – On Tuesday evening, just before sunset, a hydraulic excavator operator working with a breaker attachment in the Opal area of Noord accidentally struck and broke a large pipe belonging to WEB Aruba NV.
The broken pipe caused water to flow out, affecting residents in Opal, Rooi Santo, and the Aruba Raquet Club. WEB Aruba NV was immediately notified, and repair crews were dispatched to the site. Upon arrival, the repair team discovered significant water leakage and identified that a major repair was needed.
The broken pipe was located after the hydraulic excavator, a Hitachi model, caused the damage. The repair process required bringing in additional workers, sourcing a new pipe, and developing a plan to fix the issue.
Water service was temporarily interrupted in the affected areas, including Rooi Santo 1 to 9-G, Opal 1 to 136, and Aruba Raquet Club. WEB Aruba NV worked tirelessly to resolve the issue, and by 8:06 PM, water was restored to the areas of Rooi Santo and the Aruba Raquet Club. However, repairs in Opal were more complicated and continued. By 9:20 PM, all work was completed, and water was fully restored to the affected homes.
