On behalf of the MEP Party faction, Member of Parliament Edgard Vrolijk submitted a comprehensive document of more than 500 pages to Songül Mutluer, Chair of the Kingdom Relations Committee in the Dutch Tweede Kamer.
The document outlines the history of several laws that Aruba has dealt with over the years, including the CHE legislation, the RAft, and the most recent HOFA law. It also presents the MEP faction’s legal objections to the Kingdom Law HOFA, documenting key developments from 2020 to 2025, along with negative opinions from various professors, positions taken by labor unions, and more than 10,000 signatures from Aruban citizens opposing the HOFA proposal.
During the commission meeting, Vrolijk highlighted the most important provisions of the HOFA law that he argues conflict with Aruba’s Constitution and the Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He urged Dutch parliamentarians to carefully review the matter and address what Aruba considers a controversial proposal.
“We have presented our discussions, and the Dutch parliamentarians agreed to go back and study the document thoroughly so they can make an informed decision regarding Aruba,” Vrolijk said.
He added that the group emphasized the need for improved cooperation rather than continuous opposition. Vrolijk expressed hope that this issue will lead to stronger collaboration within the Kingdom.
