ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba Olympic Committee recently held a meeting with members of the board and the director of the “Federashon Deporte i Olímpiko Kòrsou” (FDOK), the organization responsible for organizing sports in Curaçao.

Present at the meeting were President Christine Dania, Secretary-General Sophyene Merien, and Director Gerard Charles. FDOK took the opportunity to visit the Aruba Olympic Committee (COA) during the Interinsular Games to engage in discussions on several important topics.

The meeting began with a look at the history of Olympic sports between the islands, starting from the time of the Antilles to the present day, where athletes from Curaçao have achieved success in the Pan American and Olympic Games through the COA. It was noted that Curaçao is not yet officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee, and as such, athletes from Curaçao who succeed in the Games must do so through the Netherlands or Aruba. In the past, athletes like Philip Elhage, Just, and Philippine van Aanholt have participated in the Games under the COA, representing Curaçao.

FDOK and COA recognize the importance of strong collaboration between the two organizations, with the primary goal being the well-being of the athletes, despite any challenges that may arise. For this reason, both organizations expressed a desire to strengthen their relationship to provide more support to athletes and share knowledge and information that will help elevate the level of sports in both islands. The COA was pleased with the meeting and applauded the efforts of the new FDOK board, which is committed to improving the well-being of all athletes.
