ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Directie Volksgezondheid (DVG) is calling for immediate community action to reduce mosquito breeding sites across the island. Despite ongoing efforts by the GKMB section to educate and raise awareness, many properties are still found to have stagnant water, creating potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Each standing water source is a breeding site and poses a direct health risk to families and the community. DVG emphasizes that eliminating standing water is the most effective and urgent action to break the breeding cycle and reduce the number of adult mosquitoes in the area.
Looking at the regional situation, where cases of Chikungunya and Yellow Fever continue to rise in nearby countries, the alert level in Aruba needs to be increased. Aruba is not excluded from this risk.
In addition, DVG urges the community to be aware of the symptoms of Chikungunya and Yellow Fever. If a person experiences fever, body pain, headache, or other suspicious symptoms after traveling, immediate medical attention should be sought, and travel history should be disclosed to health professionals.
DVG stresses that prevention cannot be postponed. Public health protection depends on the immediate action of every citizen.
Eliminate standing water around your home and take action today!
DVG continues to monitor the situation closely and will keep the community informed of any relevant developments. The GKMB section will only spray in neighborhoods where confirmed cases of mosquito-borne diseases have been reported. Spraying indiscriminately or continuing as before is neither efficient nor effective in solving the core problem: stagnant water left unnecessarily.
