The Las Americas Roundabout Aruba illuminated event marked a patriotic moment as the roundabout located in front of Cas di Cultura was lit with national colors as part of Aruba’s national celebrations.

The Las Americas Roundabout Aruba illuminated initiative took place in connection with the 40th anniversary of Aruba’s Status Aparte and the 50th anniversary of the island’s national anthem and flag.

Symbol of National Pride

The roundabout known as “Las Americas”, located along the main route between the airport and the hotel district, was illuminated with blue lighting, symbolizing national pride and unity for the people of Aruba.

The Las Americas Roundabout Aruba illuminated display not only honored the historic celebrations but also highlighted a broader project focused on urban renewal, landscaping, and reforestation aimed at transforming the area into a modern and environmentally friendly public space.

Major Renovation Project

The Las Americas roundabout is one of the most important traffic points connecting Queen Beatrix International Airport and the hotel area, with thousands of vehicles passing through daily.

In recent years, the area received a minor facelift, but the current project represents a larger transformation effort.

The renovation includes:

  • modern landscaping design

  • environmental improvements

  • the integration of native and naturalized plant species

As part of the initiative, 176 trees were planted in October 2025, including several native species that are characteristic of Aruba’s natural landscape.

Native Trees and Green Vision

Among the trees planted as part of the project are native species such as:

  • Fofoti

  • Pal’i Sia Cora

  • Raspa Cora

  • Raspa Biña

Other naturalized species, including Flamboyant and Oleander from Bonaire, were also incorporated into the design to enhance the greenery of the area.

Prime Minister Mike Eman, who leads the national reforestation initiative, emphasized that the project aims to bring native trees back into Aruba’s landscape and contribute to the long-term goal of making the island greener.

According to Eman, planting more trees will help restore nature, create additional shade, and improve the local climate over time.

Ceremony and Participants

During the ceremony when the lights were officially switched on, the Las Americas Roundabout Aruba illuminated event gathered several government officials and public representatives.

Prime Minister Eman expressed appreciation to:

  • Department of Public Works (DOW)

  • Fantastic Garden, which supported the landscaping work

  • Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) for financial support

He also thanked the workers responsible for maintaining and cleaning the roadside areas daily.

National Celebration Atmosphere

As Aruba celebrates the Month of the Nation and the upcoming National Anthem and Flag Day, the roundabout was illuminated in the colors of the Aruban flag, creating a symbolic and patriotic view for motorists traveling along this important road.

The event was attended by Minister of Infrastructure René Herde, along with several members of Parliament including Stephany Sevinger, Dennerich Kelly, Clifford Heyliger, John Hart, and Ruthlyn Lindor.

The Las Americas Roundabout Aruba illuminated display stands as a visual tribute to Aruba’s history, pride, and continued progress during the national celebrations.
