Aruba has taken a significant step forward in the fight against juvenile crime with the signing of a new initiative called “Gezamenlijke Aanpak Jeugdcriminaliteit”. This agreement was signed by the Prosecutor General of Aruba, the Chief Commissioner of Police, and the Director of Stichting Reclassering en Jeugdbescherming.

The initiative formalizes the collaboration between these three entities—Police, Public Prosecutor’s Office, and Reclassering—to address juvenile offenders from the moment they first encounter the justice system.

The document outlines the cooperation agreements and sets clear guidelines for managing young suspects. The primary focus is on prevention: ensuring that a young person does not re-offend and return to contact with the police after their first incident.

During the signing, the Prosecutor General expressed his deep concern for the youth and their future, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and prevention.

The Chief Commissioner of Police also highlighted the critical importance of preventive measures, while the Director of Reclassering joined in stressing that collaboration is key to offering young people a better perspective for the future.

With the formalization of this initiative, Aruba has made a significant move toward a more preventive approach in its ongoing efforts to combat juvenile crime.
