Wever-Croes: Hidden Crime in Aruba: Human Trafficking and Smuggling Is a Serious Reality

ORANJESTAD – In a response presented by parliamentarian Evelyn Wever-Croes, leader of the MEP party faction, a recent presentation by the Coordination Center for Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling Aruba (CMMA) in Parliament highlighted that Aruba is facing a serious issue with human trafficking and smuggling. Human smuggling involves aiding people to enter or stay illegally in a country, while human trafficking is a more severe crime where people are exploited, forced to work, or even coerced into prostitution. The latter directly violates human dignity.

According to the presentation, this is not something far away from us – these situations are occurring in Aruba as well. Therefore, there is a strong focus on the importance of the community recognizing signs and reporting suspicious cases. CMMA plays a key role in combating this type of crime, with a dedicated team working to protect the most vulnerable in society.

The main message is clear: awareness, vigilance, and community action are essential to prevent and fight this problem.
