On the morning of April 3, 2026, a serious accident occurred at the Ponton roundabout along E.J. “Watty” Vos Boulevard, which led to two individuals being injured. The accident unfolded when the driver of a Honda Fit exited the roundabout at high speed and failed to stop, veering off the road and crashing into a concrete wall. After losing control, the car flipped, hitting another vehicle, a Toyota Vitz, coming from the north.
Emergency services were quick to respond, with both police and rescue teams rushing to the scene. The patrol arrived to find two injured people in the Honda Fit. Fortunately, both victims were conscious, but they had sustained injuries from the crash. Ambulances were immediately dispatched to attend to the victims, and they were carefully transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Initial investigations carried out by the police at the crash site revealed that the Honda Fit’s driver had been speeding as they exited the roundabout, failing to stop and losing control of the vehicle. The impact of the collision with the Toyota Vitz further worsened the situation. Fortunately, despite the severity of the crash, both individuals were responsive and received immediate medical attention.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. However, it seems that excessive speed played a major role in the driver’s inability to safely navigate the roundabout and prevent the collision.
The police urge all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, especially when approaching roundabouts, to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. It is essential for all road users to follow traffic regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
