ORANJESTAD, Aruba – U.S. Marines from the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, part of the 2nd Marine Division, are currently deployed in Aruba as part of Caribbean Coastal Warrior 2025—a month-long joint military exercise with the Dutch Marine Squadron Carib. The dive-focused training will conclude on June 9.

One of the key highlights of this year’s operation is tactical diving using advanced rebreather systems, which allow for silent, bubble-free underwater movement—ideal for covert coastal operations. Training is being conducted off Zeewijk Beach, with the oil storage tanks and Marine Corps Base Savaneta providing a dramatic backdrop.

Strengthening NATO-Aligned Military Collaboration

Caribbean Coastal Warrior is part of a long-standing exchange program between Dutch and U.S. naval forces. These joint exercises are held annually, alternating between Caribbean territories and U.S. training grounds.

Earlier this year in April 2025, Dutch marines—including units from Aruba, St. Maarten, and Curaçao—participated in Caribbean Urban Warrior at Camp Lejeune, a major U.S. Marine Corps base in North Carolina. That exercise focused on urban warfare and small-unit tactics.

Building Regional Readiness and Trust

These bilateral training missions are designed to:

  • Enhance interoperability between NATO and allied forces
  • Foster tactical knowledge sharing in real-world environments
  • Strengthen regional security partnerships
  • Build camaraderie and trust among elite marine units

“By working side by side, we not only sharpen each other’s skills but also develop the mutual respect and coordination that define successful military alliances,” a Dutch marine officer noted.

As Caribbean Coastal Warrior 2025 nears its conclusion, both nations reaffirm their commitment to defense cooperation in the Western Hemisphere—anchored in shared values, readiness, and maritime security.
