In the late afternoon, police received a report of a domestic violence incident that had just occurred near a business along Italiestraat, close to Avenida Nelson Oduber.
A police unit was immediately dispatched to the location to respond to the situation, where a woman had allegedly been assaulted by her partner. Upon arrival, officers observed that the victim had visible injuries and multiple bruises on her body. Due to the seriousness of her condition, an ambulance was requested at the scene.
Police learned that after the assault, the woman had been locked out of the apartment where she lives.
Authorities were informed that this was not the first time the man had allegedly committed such acts. On this occasion, when the suspect realized that police were on their way, he reportedly retreated into the apartment and locked himself inside.
Officers were able to convince him to open the door after informing him that his partner was injured. Once he opened the door, he was immediately arrested on suspicion of severe assault.
He was detained at the scene while waiting for transport by the CEA police unit and was later taken to the police station. There, he was presented before the Assistant Prosecutor to address the serious allegations of domestic violence.
Meanwhile, paramedics treated the injured woman at the location.
As is standard procedure, the victim has the final decision on whether to formally press charges against the suspect.
