Grand Bahama is undergoing a major renaissance, with exciting new developments transforming the island into a vibrant tourism destination. Among these developments is Carnival Cruise Line’s new $600 million exclusive cruise destination, Celebration Key, which is set to open next month.

A Major Tourism Boost for Grand Bahama

The grand opening of Celebration Key will take place on July 18, 2025, marking a milestone in Grand Bahama’s tourism recovery. The purpose-built project, which spans 65 acres near Freeport at Sharp Rock, is set to welcome more than 2 million passengers annually by 2028. This marks one of the most significant tourism investments on the island in years.

Carnival’s new destination is designed to be an immersive Bahamian experience, offering guests everything from a mile-long beach and retail village to shore excursions and Bahamian vendor areas. It’s not just another port of call—it’s a full-fledged destination designed with Carnival guests in mind, and it’s a pivotal moment for Grand Bahama’s recovery post-storms of 2019.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

Beyond tourism, Celebration Key is also bringing economic benefits to the island. The project has already generated hundreds of construction jobs and will continue to support hundreds more once it’s fully operational. Carnival has committed to ensuring Bahamian participation in all aspects of the destination, from food and beverage to entertainment and excursions, further contributing to the local economy.

Portals and Unique Experiences

Celebration Key will feature five distinct “portals”, each tailored to different guest experiences, as well as a deep-water pier capable of accommodating two of Carnival’s largest ships simultaneously. This will make it one of the most impressive cruise destinations in the region.

Celebration Key as a Catalyst for Tourism Recovery

With Carnival’s ships already scheduled to visit Celebration Key from ports such as Miami, Port Canaveral, and Galveston, the destination is expected to quickly become a key part of Caribbean itineraries. This development signals a turning point for Grand Bahama, helping the island regain its status as a top cruise and leisure destination.

Carnival’s Low-Cost Itinerary

For those eager to experience Celebration Key, Carnival is offering cruises starting at $529 per person for a three-day Bahamas trip with a stop at Celebration Key. These prices offer an entry-level room, making the destination accessible for travelers looking for an exciting, affordable getaway.

With the opening of Celebration Key, Grand Bahama’s tourism sector is poised for a major revitalization. The countdown is officially on.
