Carnaval ta un celebracion positivo, and it is in our own hands to keep it that way, according to Member of Parliament Jennifer Arends-Reyes.
As the final weekend of Carnival celebrations approaches, Arends-Reyes made a strong appeal to place safety first during all Carnival activities. She stated that joy and tradition must go hand in hand with responsibility and the protection of the community.
“Carnival is an essential part of our cultural identity. It is a season of unity, creativity, and national pride. However, safety must always be our priority,” Arends-Reyes declared.
The parliamentarian emphasized the importance of close cooperation between authorities, organizers, volunteers, and citizens to prevent incidents and ensure a healthy, controlled, and safe environment for everyone.
Among the main points she highlighted were:
-
Visible police presence and effective coordination with emergency services.
-
Control of excessive alcohol consumption and prevention of drug use.
-
Road safety, including proper traffic control and transportation options after events.
-
Protection of children and youth during Carnival activities.
-
Hearing protection for both adults and children during high-noise events.
-
Clear information and rapid communication in case of emergencies.
“It is in our own hands to ensure that a moment of celebration does not turn into a moment of regret. Prevention is key. Everyone has a role — as a parent, as an organizer, and as a participant,” she added.
Arends-Reyes also made a special appeal to young people to celebrate responsibly, avoid fights, refrain from driving under the influence, and stay away from reckless behavior that could endanger lives.
She concluded by expressing her deep appreciation and gratitude to the police, volunteers, medical personnel, and all those working tirelessly during Carnival to maintain order and safety in the community.
“A truly successful Carnival is not only one filled with lights and music, but one where everyone can celebrate and return home safely.”
