In May and June 2025, Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba showcased its commitment to health, teamwork, and inclusivity by participating in two of the island’s major sporting events—the 12 Hours of Aruba mountain bike relay and the KLM Aruba Marathon.

Boardwalk Conquers the 12-Hour MTB Relay

The 12 Hours of Aruba, held annually since 2015, gathered over 250 cyclists in six-member teams who rode from noon to midnight through challenging nature trails. Boardwalk Boutique Hotel joined with two teams—one male and one female—totaling 12 riders. Beyond competing, Boardwalk also supported the event as a Gold Sponsor, providing fresh fruit popsicles to athletes as a refreshing boost.

“Our number one reason for participating is to have fun and enjoy Aruba’s beautiful outdoors,” said Stephanie Rooijakkers, co-owner of Boardwalk. “It’s the perfect match for our love of nature, active lifestyles, and supporting local initiatives.”

Supporting Inclusion at the KLM Aruba Marathon

Boardwalk extended its passion for sports to inclusivity by supporting Beyond Sports Limits, a local foundation that empowers people with disabilities through athletics. During the 2025 KLM Aruba Marathon, Boardwalk sponsored athlete Luuk Loo, who pushed Disjondrick Jacobs in a wheelchair for the full marathon distance.

Starting at 3:00 AM, the duo crossed the finish line in just under 4 hours, highlighting what can be achieved with determination and teamwork. Boardwalk also contributed 1,000 AWG to fund this initiative, helping raise awareness and create opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

“It’s not just about sport—it’s about changing lives,” a Boardwalk spokesperson emphasized.

Team Spirit in the 5K Fun Run

On June 7, twelve Boardwalk team members representing departments from Front Desk to HR joined the 5K Fun Run and Walk at the KLM Aruba Marathon. All participants crossed the finish line, most under 30 minutes, with Segundo Muñoz Chiki leading the team at 24:56. The effort reinforced Boardwalk’s commitment to wellness, teamwork, and a balanced lifestyle.

Building a Legacy of Wellness and Community

From mountain biking through rugged trails to supporting inclusive sports, Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba continues to champion wellness, sustainability, and community engagement. Their actions underscore a lasting legacy of health, teamwork, and purpose on the One Happy Island.
